Counter-battery radar ARTHUR is now in Ukraine. How does it hunt enemy artillery?
The Armed Forces of Ukraine have announced the arrival of the new counter-battery and artillery reconnaissance system on Facebook.
This counter-battery radar was developed by the Swedish company Ericsson Microwave Systems in cooperation with the armed forces of Norway and Sweden. The radar is also used in the United Kingdom where it has two different names: mobile artillery monitoring battlefield radar and mobile artillery monitoring battlefield asset (MAMBA).
Mobile radar ARTHUR consists of a passive electronically scanned phased array operating in C-band frequencies. The radar equipment is mounted on Bandvagn 206 tracked rover chassis. However, in the latest versions manufacturer uses standard ISO fastening elements to make it compatible with a broader range of trucks. Good terrain passability is the main advantage of this system in terms of how quickly it can be moved between different locations.
